Credit Valley sandstone has been tested in some of the harshest Canadian winters. The stone has endured over 150 years in many old Toronto homes, government buildings and churches . Through sub-zero winters, extreme heat alerts, torrential rains and the natural freeze/thaw of Ontario, Credit Valley sandstone has stood the test of time.
Credit Valley stone has been used in numerous notable government buildings, the finest homes of Toronto, London, Ottawa and southern Ontario and many places of worship. The challenge has always been to supply Credit Valley stone at affordable prices with a continued supply for the future.
When a stone has been tested for over 150 years, you learn a thing or two about quality. That's why Credit Valley Quarries reopened its two quarries in 2009. Our owners' industry expertise encompasses over 50 years – years of understanding the needs of architects, engineers, landscape architects, masons, contractors, landscapers and homeowners.Whether the project is a heritage restoration, a 1950's repair or a new addition, we can identify and supply what you need.
Our quarries offer, the designer and architect, a green infrastructure that includes natural areas such as woodlots, wetlands, managed forests and orchards and other important components such as nesting trees for birds and small animals with open areas for deer, coyotes and raccoons to cohabit. This interconnected setting offers Caledon, Ontario a broad array of benefits for healthy living. Located on the Niagara Escarpment this vital infrastructure provides us with everything from shade and better air quality to employment and bottom-line savings on Credit Valley sandstone materials.
We are in compliance with the Ministry of Natural Resources, Niagara Escarpment Commission and other regulatory agencies and seek advice from Credit Valley Conservation, Ontario Woodlot Association, Caledon Heritage Association and Ontario Stone Sand Gravel Association (OSSGA) on "best practices" for the industry.
We have offered years of support for the Bruce Trail Conservancy (BTA) at both quarries by "establishing a conservation corridor containing a public footpath along the Niagara Escarpment, in order to protect its natural ecosystems and to promote environmentally responsible public access to this UNESCO World Biosphere Reserves."
We have locally supported the Terra Cotta Community Centre with donations to help raise funds for this important restoration project.
At a provincial level, we support the Evergreen Brick Works restoration project in Toronto, Canada. In early 2011, a Credit Valley sandstone dry stone bake oven will be built in Chimney Court allowing the public the opportunity to see their own bread baked in an outdoor oven.
As a company, we offer the full range of colours in Credit Valley sandstone to match existing buildings and can supply new construction or landscaping projects. Our materials come in a variety of forms – flagstone in square cut or random; thinner flagstone for wall applications; ledgerock in various heights and colours along with new product sizing. Our landscape stone creates "focus" in natural ponds and water features that grey limestone does not. Both quarries are "pesticide free" so there's no contamination with non-organic substances.
We offer on- site dry stone wall workshops allowing professionals and non-professionals the opportunity to learn the "art" in a heritage setting. Credit Valley dry stone rubble in mixed colours creates a natural dry stone wall reminiscent of a century ago but at an affordable price. Create a new wall or blend in with an existing wall, our dry stone has a long history of durability. Need a certain colour of Credit Valley dry stone? No problem. Stone has also been sorted and skidded by colour for easy shipping and handling. So what's left? Nothing. It's clear that there's a new benchmark in the Credit Valley stone market.
